Job Description

Job Objective: Under the direction of the Director of cardiovascular services performs a wide variety of diagnostic cardiac exams 

Duties and Responsibilities:

A.  Performs various exams, including cardiac exams, 2D Echo, Doppler, color flow, stress echo, trans-esophageal, dobutamine stress echo and pediatric echocardiography

  1. Knows current technique for each specific exam
  2. Operates all cardiac ultrasound equipment properly and skillfully
  3. Identifies pathology and cardiac anatomy
  4. Evaluates images for diagnostic content
  5. Assists physicians
  6. Responsible for the completion of all procedures
  7. Routinely prepares exams for interpretation by the cardiologist
  8. Operates all cardiac ultrasound equipment properly and skillfully

B.  Required to work on an on-call basis outside of his/her regularly scheduled work hours.

  1.  Following regularly scheduled shifts or when the shift ends early as a result of flexed hours
  2. Works independently after-hours and on holidays

C.  Demonstrates knowledge regarding special needs and behaviors of age specific groups

  1.  Participates in age specific educational and training programs
  2.  Demonstrates proficiency in required age specific competencies 

Non-Essential Duties:

  1. Answers telephones
  2. Schedules appointments
  3. Orders supplies
  4. Trouble-shoots equipment problems
  5. Contacts service for repairs
  6. Responds to change in scheduling
  7. Rotates shifts and days as needed
  8. Other miscellaneous duties as required 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Knowledge

  • Has thorough knowledge of all aspects of cardiac anatomy 

Skills

  • Skilled in cardiac sonographic positioning and techniques 

Abilities

  • Ability to evaluate cardiac sonograms for technical excellence.
  • Ability to operate and transport equipment

Required Licensure and/or Certifications:

  • RDCS from ARDMS, RCS or RCCS from CCI, or CRCS from CARDUP 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • The department operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • Work in a normal lab setting during daytime hours
